Aerodynamics Experiments to share with their children
This article teaches kids about aeronautics and gives a handful of totally fun activities to experiment with their homeschool science learning (including helicopters, parachutes and other flying machines). Itâ € ™ s also good for the Boy Scouts working on a badge, or for any kids that love science experiments. These experiments are part of a science program home school I teach, and I promise that your kids will love.
Every flying thing, whether an aircraft, ship ball football, or flying boy the experiences of four primary aerodynamic forces: lift, weight, thrust and drag. An airplane uses a propeller or jet engine to generate thrust. The wings create lift.
The smooth, pencil-thin shape minimizes drag. And the molecules that make up the weight attributed to the plane.
Let's see what are all parts of a plane. You'll have to get a cheap flight balsa wood for the next part - check out your local pharmacy or toy store. I even found in grocery stores for about $ 2.
Take the balsa wood airplane and try to fly just the body (without wings or fins). Moves from one pull the whole place. Try to fly only the large wing (no body). Somersaults! Now slide the large wing on the body and the fly (unless somersaults, but repugnant to fly!). Now add a horizontal stabilizer (elevator) tail, and when you throw it, add a slight curve to the plane "fishtails" in the air (like a car) â € | but does not appear that there are no more somersaults? Add the vertical tail (rudder) and see how that goes straight now, no matter the shape of the curve-throwing.
Sneaky Tip: if you remove the metal clip on the nose beforehand, you can add the last time to really see what is forums € | Notice where most weight is without the clip?
Council for Teaching Homeschool Science: Keep a small box with these items inside: paper clips (in two different sizes), rubber bands, tape, scissors, index cards, string, copy paper, hole punch, colored pencils and a stapler. Label of his â € œFlying box Paper Machine Equipment €. Pull the tray out, add kids, and one step back.
Ready to make flight more things? Leta € ™ s do more things that fly, zoom, rotate, and soar, while teaching homeschool science, at the same time!
Helicopters paper Cut a rectangle of 5 by 2 inches. A longitudinal section through the strip, stopping about an inch before the end. Inch uncut tape this to the extreme end of a popsicle stick. Fold œbunny € â-€ EARA flaps in the front direction. Launched from a balcony and watch it spin and spin! Optional: You can notch the end of the popsicle stick to make a helicopter sling shot. Make a quick slingshot launcher by looping the rubber band to another popsicle stick end.
Butterfly Cups tape two Dixie paper cups together, bottom to bottom. As the rubber band chain six. Loop one end of the string rubber over his thumb and maintain horizontal arm straight, palm up. Place the rest of the chain over his arm. Place the taped butterfly cups at the free end (near your shoulder) and slowly wind the rubber band around the middle of the cups. When the wind near the end, stop, pull the string toward the elbow, make sure that the band rubber comes from the bottom of the cups and release. The cups should rotate quickly and take air, and then descend down to a landing light. Try one with four cups.
Blimps Shake a garbage bag to its maximum capacity. (The use of tape or tape) into the open end almost closedir € | you still want a small hole the size of the hair dryer nozzle. Use the hair dryer to inflate the bag and the hot air inside (make sure that do not melt the bag). When the air is at its warmest, the release of their position in the bag while turning off the hair dryer. It should float to the roof and stay there for a while. This experiment works best on cold mornings. The greater the temperature difference between air bag and the surrounding air, longer it will float.
Parachutes Attach a piece of string or thin wire to the four corners of a fabric. Place a stick, a small piece of stones wrapped in another tissue, a pinecone, etc. to the centers of the chain. Practice these falling from the balcony and see which falls slowest with that load.
Ring Thing Court an index card into thirds lengthwise. Loop one strip into a circle and tape ends. Place two remaining strips together end to end and tape, then loop on the circle large and tape in place. Place a piece of tape on one end of a straw and gently secure One Ring to the tape. Repeat with the other end with the remaining ring. Sure that the two concentric rings (you can see through both like a telescope). Throw it small-end first!
Freedom Machines A run form barriers to some or all of the different challenges: Hit a target balloon (arm the machines with opened paper clips); Go above and below the suspended length chain, do it through a hula hoop suspended vertically or horizontally Marshmallow carry a passenger safely across shark infested waters (two tables separated); hang large paper airplanes (made from 11x17 "paper, or two 8.5x11" prints documents together to make a 11x17 ") from the roof of a â € ~ dog fight "to win points, if a tag; Shoot the basketball hoop, and dive into a basket.

Fishtail palms can survive in pots?
Do they have to be planted in the ground? I was thinking of buying one for an apartment patio. Can you cut a fish-Tail Palm to keep it at a certain height?
Yes, they survive in pots, if the pot in which planted is large enough to contain them. Be sure to be kind in the transplant, as the palms do not usually respond well to transplanting. Palms can be cut to the desired height, but the cut should be handled a little differently than most of the trees, because they are monocots such as grasses (ie, leaves grow from the base, not the edges, so you can cut the top of your lawn without dying) Do not cut too quickly, and avoid cutting some of the most low freeze up the leaves, because time can cause a narrowing of the main trunk of the tree. These things will weaken the plant.
