Select a basket

What is the best type of bird feeder for Blue Jays and Cardinals?
My father loves feeding the birds and have several feeders birds. We seem to attract enough of all types of birds, but the larger birds (Blue Jays and Cardinals) have a difficult time of feeding, compared with the finches and other smaller ones. We offer a wide variety of bird feed mixture and black oil sunflower. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Tiles are rarely attracted to seeds, as their main diet is insects, but you can try a suet feeder to attract them. They can not use the feeder tail vane type that a woodpecker can use, you'll need to put the blocks together into something that can perch on. Cardinals, on the other hand, Sunflower Seeds, LOVE, and will come to almost any food you have. I prefer the hopper type feeders, simply because you can put lots of seeds in them. Many Blue Jays like peanuts - seems to depend on your mood, I managed to accustom myself to one point to take them on hand, but never had * very * sit on my finger. Be sure not to feed peanuts during the breeding season, however, adults can be handled without problem, but have a bad way complete filling with such cultures of babies, and young blue jays have a Very Hard time digesting them. Make sure you put the water to all birds, while do not eat the seeds or fat, we all need water, and could well be the only place in the neighborhood that has water avilable to them. If you can find a drip nozzle or spray, which will help attract them because they come with the sound of running water. I even have the occasional hawk in my birdbath when I lived in Colorado! Any kind of food you choose to use, be sure to keep it clean. Here in western Washington state, we are having a bit of a problem with the Birds that die of salmonella, so you are encouraged to use the tube type feeders like finches and small birds. Your feeders should be cleaned once a week with a solution bleach and water so there is less chance of disease transmission from diseased birds to healthy ones. Enjoy
