Bitter melon or karela is now days very popular among people around the world. The reason for this is its potential to reduce levels of blood sugar. Karela has certain properties that are extremely useful in reducing diabetes mellitus or commonly known as blood sugar. It is an herb that is very useful not only in maintaining normal blood sugar levels in the body, but also helps to maintain normal body function.
The condition of the hyperglycemia occurs when our body is unable to maintain normal blood sugar due to changes in sugar metabolism. Bitter melon is known as karvelak in Sanskrit and Momordica charantia in botanical terms language. It is a vine tendril that grows to 4 5 meters. The leaves are alternate and are separated by 3 to 8 lobes. The plant has male and female flowers separately. The fruit is oblong and whether in appearance or the color green. The skin is is rough, barrel-shaped. In fruit, the seeds are present that are 15 to 25 in number. These are very bitter in taste.
Uses
· Diabetes - the world is globally accepted fact that bitter melon is very effective in the treatment of diabetes. Therefore, it is popularly known as protein plant worldwide. Chemically karela contains a compound that is very similar to the insulin that is sometimes referred to as P-insulin. Research has shown that when given the extract of this p-insulin subcutaneously has been very effective in replacing insulin in the body. Therefore it is a good vegetable substitute for insulin. Karela has been an herb of choice to reduce the level of blood sugar in the body. Helps stimulate the pancreas to secrete insulin, which other wise had been restricted. There have been about three components so they are really very effective in treating high blood sugar levels in the blood. These include steroidal saponins called charantin, peptides similar to that of peptides and certain alkaloids. To be honest it is clear that of these, which is the compound that is actually regulating sugar levels, but it is certain that a person receives a great relief.
· Indigestion - is a good digestive agent and helps stimulate the secretion gastric juices. It is also helpful in stimulating liver for secretion of bile juices that are very essential for fat metabolism. Helps improve peristaltic movements, therefore, is very useful for avoiding gastric disturbances.
· Dyspepsia - as karela is very useful to keep the normal condition of digestion and it is useful to prevent disease and dyspepsia.
· Constipation - This is a condition that affects millions of people around the world and the main reason for this is faulty eating habits and unhealthy dietary practices. All can be revived karela juice for consumption on a regular basis. Not only relives indigestive status but also helps in the fight against constipation. Improved movement peristaltic gastrointestinal tract and also improves the absorption in the intestine.
· Heart Burn - the common heart burn among people nowadays. As a condition of burning sensation in the chest region. This is due to indigestion. Ulcers · - karela is very effective in the treatment of gastric and the duodenal ulcers. It is usual to maintain normal production of gastric juices and acids that protect the mucous membrane of getting depleted due to the Exposure to these harsh conditions.
